2026 is not the year of expired film, nowhere is that more evident than these results from a particularly smelly roll of Lucky BR100. Lucky has had a very successful couple of years producing some new and exciting color films to satisfy an emerging Chinese market but they have a long history of film production so I was excited to experience part of it.

That excitement faded with the unveiled horror smell that greeted me when opening the container. The results of the film are not surprising given the age and likely poor quality of storage for 30+ years. It truly has nothing to do with Lucky except for the fact that it’s impressive any results came through but I am mainly writing this piece because I saw no other BR100 examples out there and like a modern day lighthouse hopefully these can ward of fellow photographers from crashing onto the jagged rocks of nasty expired film.
